Prince Charles To Commonwealth Leaders: Dropping The Queen Is ‘For Each To Decide’

Posted: Friday, June 24, 2022. 3:44 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Prince Charles is representing the Queen at the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Rwanda which is taking place from June 20 to June 26, 2022.

Prince Charles reportedly told Commonwealth leaders that decisions about whether they keep the Queen as head of state or become a republic are “a matter for each member country to decide”, The National reports.

In addition, Prince Charles said that fundamental changes can be made “calmly and without rancor”.

His statement could be seen as acknowledging forces since several Caribbean nations have indicated that they may ditch the British Monarchy in the future.

“I want to say clearly, as I have said before, that each member’s Constitutional arrangement, as republic or monarchy, is purely a matter for each member country to decide,” the Prince of Wales stated.

However, Prince Charles said that it must not be forgotten the close and trusted partnership shared between Commonwealth members; common values, and shared goals that strengthen the Commonwealth.
