By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Sunday, Seleny Villanueva Pott was elected Chairlady for the Caye Caulker Village Council for a third term.
In 2019, Pott ran with the support of the PUP and emerged victorious. However, this time around, she decided to form an independent slate and contest the elections.
During an interview on nomination day, Seleny said that “her spirits were dampened” during the COVID-19 pandemic and she didn’t want to look for a challenge.
After consultation with the people of Caye Caulker, she decided to run independently to represent the village.
Pott says that she has been able to work with both administrations and has an electorate that “votes for people, not parties.”
Five councilors on the independent slate emerged victorious along with 1 PUP councilor.
