Pfizer: Tweaked COVID-19 shots boost protection against Omicron

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Saturday, Pfizer announced that it is tweaking its COVID-19 vaccine to boost protection against the omicron variant, TheAssociated Press reports.

The company said that the vaccine is safe and it works.

The vaccines currently available, target the original coronavirus strain and their effectiveness against others dropped with omicron emerged.

Health experts are now considering ordering a recipe change in vaccines that are now available in hopes that modified booster shots could offer better protection.

Pfizer and BioNTech are now researching 2 ways of updating their shots to target omicron and also tested the standard dosage or whether or not to double the strength.

Pfizer noted that based on their study, they believe they have 2 very strong omicron-adapted candidates.

Pfizer’s omicron-only booster sparked the strongest immune response against that variant.
