By BBN Staff: A homeless man is facing prison time if he cannot pay a fine he picked up this week for drug possession.
John Hoy was taken to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, charged with possession of a controlled drug for an amount of crack so small, that police scales could not determine its weight.
Hoy immediately pleaded guilty and asked the court for mercy as he had just gotten out of jail and is no longer welcome at his family home since he got out of prison.
The court fined him $75 for the offense plus the $5 cost of court which he must pay by August 31 or he will face three weeks in jail.
