By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Across the United States, abortion-rights protesters continued to voice their concerns over the weekend.
The protests erupted following the ruling by the United States Supreme Court to eliminate the federal constitutional right to an abortion.
The Supreme Court overturned the 1973 ruling known as Roe v. Wade sparking massive protests throughout the weekend.
The 1973 ruling was a landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in which the Court ruled that the Constitution of the United States generally protects a pregnant woman’s liberty to choose to have an abortion.
With Friday’s decision to overturn the 1973 ruling, major cities saw large protests as clinics stopped offering the procedure and states began enacting abortion bans.
The new ruling basically declares that the constitutional right to abortion, upheld for nearly a half-century, no longer exists.
However, gatherings of people celebrating the ruling were also occurring, CNN reports.
Following the ruling, President Joe Biden said that it was a “sad day” for the United States and pledged to continue to find solutions to ensure abortion rights.
