By Aaron Humes: Never mind a “diss track” – Prime Minister John Briceño needed one line, maybe two, to casually dismiss Sunday’s performance on the stage at the BET Awards by Leader of the Opposition Moses “Shyne” Barrow, which some have lauded for putting the Jewel on the international map.

“We all know that that is what the Leader of the Opposition aspires for – to be back on the stage to rap. I think he has a better chance of becoming a successful rapper, a better chance of doing that, than to become Prime Minister of Belize,” was his pithy dismissal to reporters this afternoon from Lisbon, Portugal, where he has been in meetings all day and was addressing the media corps at 10 p.m. Lisbon time.

The Prime Minister added that he did not see the performance – had no time to, considering his busy schedule.

Considering that Barrow’s three albums netted platinum recording sales and at least one Grammy Award between them before his prison stint, that’s quite the diss.

Barrow was performing in honour of mentor Sean Combs, alias Diddy, who was receiving a BET Lifetime Achievement Award, and performed in front of an unfurled giant Belize flag during his brief time on stage.
