St. Francis Xavier Credit Union ends leadership dispute at Annual General Meeting

Posted: Tuesday, June 28, 2022. 9:45 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Nearly two thousand members of the St. Francis Xavier Credit Union (SFXCU) based in Corozal Town put an end to the ugly spectacle of the institution’s internal disputes at its Annual General Meeting.
Dominating proceedings was the election of a new Board of Directors, Credit Committee and Supervisory Committee, but it all turned on the fate of one man – General Manager Rafael Dominguez, who says he was unfairly forced out by the previous Board. That Board claims that his contract had run out and would not be renewed.

The elections, supervised by representatives of the Belize Credit Union League (BCUL) and fellow credit unions returned the full administrative mandate to those slates which supported Dominguez.

The new members of each Board are as follows: Board of Directors: Everaldo Puck; Juana Terry; Carla Bacab; Omar Huitz; Timotea Sanchez; Addy Sanchez; and Udulberto Munos; Credit Committee: Mitchel Castaneda; Filiberto Teck; and Melhelm Williams, and Supervisory Committee: Norman Santoya, Mayet Castillo, and Jorge Cob.

In a separate resolution, members voted unanimously to restore Dominguez as General Manager, cementing his control of the institution.

The Credit Union must also deal with what it calls a “handsome compensation package” for now-retired Michael Riverol, who had been accused of assaulting Supervisory Committee members Mayet Castillo and Jorge Cob, and the firing of branch managers in San Pedro and Caye Caulker due to their being close family with Rafael Dominguez Senior.
