The Cycling Federation of Belize (CFB) selected three Under 23 riders, namely Gabrielle Gabourel, Derrick Chavarria, and Shawn Codd, to represent Belize at Baie-mahault, Guadeloupe from June 30 to July 3.
Chavarria is the U-23 National Individual Time Trial champion. He finished third in the U-23 National Road Championship while Codd finished 5th last Sunday.
‘Baby Chav,’ as Chavarria is also called, is also the Caribbean Junior Cycling Road Champion. He won the gold medal in the 56.25 (90 Kms) Road Race riding solo at the Caribbean Junior Cycling Championship in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on Sunday, October 24, 2021.
Gabourel is the Junior titleholder in both the Women’s Individual Time Trial and Road Championship.
“We at it again. This time the U23 will be participating in the first-ever Caribbean Cycling Games in Guadeloupe. Three of our best will be representing us proudly in the ITT and Road Race,” said the Cycling Federation of Belize in a social media post when it announced the selection of the three cyclists.
The three will compete in both the Road Race and the Individual Time Trial at the regional games.
The three are accompanied by CFB Vice President Dion Leslie.
