By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has appointed Dr. Osmond Martinez, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Economic Development (MED), as a constituency Director for 2022-23 cycle.
According to the CDB, at the Procedures Committee Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) held on June 14, 2022, the Governors for the constituency of Belize and Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Montserrat, and the Turks and Caicos Islands appointed Dr. Martinez as the Director for that constituency for the 2022/2023 cycle, commencing June 15, 2022.
Dr Martinez must now appoint an Alternate with full power to act for him when he is not present. It is expected that following consultations between the Governments of Belize and the Cayman Islands, that Dr. Martinez appoint the person identified by the Government of the Cayman Islands to serve as the Alternate Director.
Dr. Martinez said that while he is a constituency director he will lobby for low-cost Climate Finance, take advantage of concessionary loans and technical assistance, particularly for Medium, Small and Micro Enterprises (MSMEs) and the agro-productive sector.
He will also lobby to improve implementation of Green Climate Fund (GCF) projects through CDB, to improve procurement of projects by providing training to our procurement specialist, and to improve the logistics of trade among the Caribbean countries by sea and air.
Dr. Martinez said he’ll also work toward creating low-cost financing through the Development Finance Corporation (DFC) that will benefit the Private Sector.
