Tropical Storm Bonnie expected to form in the Atlantic

Posted: Wednesday, June 29, 2022. 9:23 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Forecasters are closely monitoring potential tropical cyclone 2, over the eastern Caribbean Sea. This system continues to produce heavy rainfall across the Windward Islands and it is expected to spread into parts of northern Venezuela through tonight. It has an 80% chance of formation through the next 48 hours.

The system could become Tropical Storm Bonnie, the second named storm of the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season, as it approaches the Caribbean.

Forecasters are also keeping a close eye on an area of low pressure in the northern Gulf of Mexico. This system is forecast to move slowly westward and approach the coast of Texas today.

Regardless of development, heavy rain will be possible along portions of theTexas coast for the next few days.

Another tropical wave located over the central tropical Atlantic is producing disorganized showers and a few thunderstorms. The wave is forecast to move over the Windward Islands late Friday or early Saturday and then over the eastern Caribbean Sea by the weekend.
