By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Violence against journalists in Mexico continues to rise as the country recorded the 12th death of a journalist this year.
According to Latin Post, Antonio de la Cruz, 43, a reporter for Expreso was shot on Wednesday while leaving his house.
De la Cruz was accompanied by his 23-year-old daughter when the shooting occurred and she was also injured.
State Governor of Tamaulipas, Francisco Cabeza da Vaca said that the recent attacks on journalists will not go unpunished.
Meanwhile, media rights group Reporters Without Borders urged Mexican authorities to investigate if De la Cruz murder was related to his journalistic work.
Several reports indicate that 2022 is the deadliest year on record for the Mexican press.
