By Rubén Morales Iglesias: American Belizean Simone Biles will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the United States’ highest civilian honour.
NBC Olympics reports that at 25, Biles is the youngest athlete to ever receive the honour.
Biles is one of 17 persons who will be honoured with Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Biles, who is of Belizean parentage, holds a Belize passport and regularly visits the country, particularly on her vacations.
Biles holds seven Olympic gymastics medals and has 19 gold medals at the World Gymnastics Championships. She is one of the greatest gymnasts of all time.
Lately, she has been very outspoken on issues related to sexual abuse and mental health.
According to the White House, those honoured have made exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values, or security of the United States, world peace, or other significant societal, public, or private endeavours.
