Posted: Sunday, July 3, 2022. 11:04 am CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: The Belize Police Department managed to host another successful round of the Sprite Live Life Youth Basketball Tournament 2022 yesterday, despite the consistent heavy rains.

The department’s Public Relations Unit explained that, due to the rains, the games were moved from Lopez Mateo Park basketball courts to the Mexico Sports Center, located beside the Marion Jones Sporting Complex.

“Once again, we saw rival teams in these difficult violent days, rival groups hanging out together peacefully, reasoning with each other, communicating with each other positively. We also saw, heart & soul competitiveness, sportsmanship, leadership & controlled discipline behaviors displayed on and off the basketball court,” the Police Department said.

Attendees also participated in 20-minute life skills sessions on “anger management” before & after their games.

The tournament results are as follows:

Game #1 – Hard Rock Boys 40 pts. vs. Complex Titans 30 pts., Game #2 – Unruly Boys 40 pts. vs. Kraal Road 35 pts., Game #3 – Ebony Lake 33 pts., vs. Southside Warriors 32 pts., Game #4 – Hard Rock Boys 47 pts. vs. Freetown Hitters 26 pts., Game #5 – Freetown Hitters 28 pts vs. Pink’s Alley 24 pts. #6 – Complex Titans 37 pts., vs. Ebony Lake 24 pts., Game #7 – Ladyville Big Dreams 35 pts. vs. Mahogany Heights Camp 33 pts., Game #8 – Dan One 26 pts. vs. Pink’s Alley 23 pts., and Game # 9 – Team Police 38 pts. vs. Westmohland 22 pts.

“For these past eight weeks of this Sprite “Live Life” Youth Basketball Tournament 2022, 15 teams from Belize District, over 140+ young males, ages 19 years & above, have decided to choose to shoot basketballs & compete against each other and not shoot guns at each other, but most importantly, they choose to “LIVE LIFE” positively,” the department added.

The tournament continues On July 7, and games are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. on the Ladyville Community Basketball Court.
