Posted: Sunday, July 3, 2022. 7:18 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Friday evening, Tropical storm Bonnie made landfall near the Nicaragua- Costa Rica border, the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) reports.

Heavy rainfall continues to affect Nicaragua and Costa Rica with the possibility of life-threatening flash flooding and mudslides, the NHC added.

Forecasters say the storm can weaken as it crosses land but can re-intensify over the eastern Pacific today.

The storm had maximum sustained winds of near 50 miles per hour with higher gusts.

As of this morning, the center of Tropical Storm Bonnie was located about 160 miles (255 km) south of Puerto San Jose, Guatemala.

NHC noted that areas of heavy rainfall are possible during the next couple of days across portions of El Salvador, Guatemala, and southern and southwestern Mexico.
