By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Six people were killed in a shooting as the United States continues to celebrate the 246th anniversary of Independence with parades and celebrations across the country.
According to CBS, a man between the ages of 18 to 20 opened fire at a 4th of July parade this morning in Highland Park, Illinois.
Authorities say the suspect is considered armed and dangerous.
At this time, investigators say the gunman was shooting from a roof.
The digital producer from CBS Chicago, Elyssa Kaufman said that they heard gunshots and everyone began running and screaming.
The Mayor has reportedly canceled the rest of the festival and nearby communities also canceled their parades.
“On a day that we came together to celebrate community and freedom, we’re instead mourning the loss, the tragic loss of life and struggling with the terror that was brought upon us,” Mayor Nancy Rotering said.
