Two Ladyville men found guilty of double murder

By BBN Staff: Two Ladyville residents have been found guilty of the 2018 double murder of Casey Lozano and Marlon Spain.

The men found guilty are 27-year-old Jessie Mejía and 25-year-old Darwin Prado. Their verdict was handed down in the Supreme Court on Monday by Justice Ricardo O’Neil Sandcroft. They were also charged with one count of attempted murder in relation to Athlee Lozano, Casey’s brother, but were found not guilty of that charge as Athlee was allegedly neither shot or shot at.

Their sentencing hearing was scheduled for July 29.

Around 6:45 p.m. on January 23, 2018, the duo ambushed and opened fire on a group of men who were standing near the junction of Marage Road and Compassion Lane in the Japan area of Ladyville. Spain received several shots and died on the spot, while the gunmen set chase after the fleeing crowd, and shot Lozano several times. Lozano died en route to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
