UDP sounds the alarm – premium gas to approach $18 per gallon

Posted: Monday, July 4, 2022. 8:05 pm CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: On Monday, members of the United Democratic Party warned Belizeans of an incoming gas price increase that will see the cost of Premium gasoline go to almost $18.

Party Leader Shyne Barrow and Albert Division Area Representative Tracy Taegar Panton took to social media, in lieu of the press releases that used to signal an incoming price change that were stopped by the Government of Belize earlier this year, to warn that at midnight Premium was going up to $17.60.

The new price represents a $1.82 increase from the current $15.78.

“Somebody, Anybody PLEASE tell me when is Enough, Enough? If there is NO plan to mitigate escalating inflation, the people will perish. At the very minimum we have to re-institute the Safety-Net Programs to support those that are living at the margins,” Taegar Panton said.

Meanwhile, Barrow kept it simple, saying only “GAS GOING UP to almost $18!!! IT WILL GET WORSE!!!”

Barrow also called on the electorate to vote out the Briceno administration, noting that many villages recently voted for the People’s United Party.

“What a way to say thanks!” he added.

The expected price increase is estimated to be the 13th price adjustment for fuel this year, with the majority of those adjustments being increases.
