By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The International Regional Organization for Plant and Animal Health (OIRSA), Pesticides Control Board, and the Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA) are going to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on the packaging, transportation, and usage of pesticide SITRACSUM on Friday, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE).
The signing of the SITRACSUM MOU will be conducted on Friday, July 8, at Dream Valley Resort in Teakettle Village, Cayo, said MAFSE.
SITRACSUM is an insecticide specially formulated and canned for OIRSA to use for the disinfection of luggage compartments on arriving international flights at Philip Goldson International Airport, said sources at MAFSE.
SITRACSUM has been imported in the past with special requests and considerations every time but now with the MOU it can be brought more easily under the direct supervision and control of the PCB.
On Friday as well, PCB and OIRSA will sign a letter of intent on a strategic alliance of the PCB Grow Safe Program and the OIRSA biological control program. The alliance is aimed at reducing “the use of pesticides for the control of pests of economic importance”.
