By Rubén Morales Iglesias: After taking out the Santa Elena Strikers 21-0 on aggregate in the semifinals, Bay City FC now look forward to beating Wagiya SC United in the one-shot National Amateur Women’s League (NAWL) B Final on Saturday.
The match is scheduled for 4:00 pm at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan.
And while Bay City defeated the Dangriga side 4-0 and 6-0, during the regular season, the final should not be an easy rollover as Wagiya SC United have improved and are more resilient now.
In effect, Corozal’s Bay City FC opened the NAWL Championship with a 4-0 drubbing of Wagiya SC United at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga on Saturday, March 19. Aaliyah Herbert got things going in the 4’, Anahie Blanco hit the second in the 21’, and Kaite Jones scored a brace in the 36’ and 63’.
Then on Sunday, May 15, Bay City FC again rolled over Wagiya SC United 6-0 at the Santiago Ricalde Stadium in Corozal Town. Nora Ramirez scored a brace in the 38’ and 66’. Alisha Terry (25’), Anahie Blanco (43’), Darina Tzul (69’), and Shante Chacon (89’) converted the other goals.
Bay City look the favourites, but of late Wagiya SC United have played with more determination and after dropping the favoured Cayo Dreamers in the semifinals 6-0 on aggregate, they are also intent on taking down the undefeated Corozal goal scoring machine.
In total, Bay City has scored 96 unanswered goals this season. Wagiya, though, have a rather enviable 40 with 15 against.
So, expect Wagiya SC United to put up a good fight.
