Sagitun GIRLZ, San Pedro Pirates clash in one-shot NAWL A Final on Saturday

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Sagitun GIRLZ and the San Pedro Pirates are moving towards a head-on collision in the one-shot National Amateur Women’s League (NAWL) A Final on Saturday at 6:00 pm at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan.

Sagitun finished the regular season in second position ahead of the San Pedro Pirates only by goal differential. Both won three games, drew two, and lost three during the regular season. Both allowed 13 goals, but Sagitun GIRLZ scored 12 to San Pedro Pirates’ ten.

Rather even numbers.

On the field, the Sagitun GIRLZ beat the San Pedro Pirates 4-2 the first time they met at the Ambergris Stadium in San Pedro on Saturday, April 23.

Surma Alfaro hit the opener in the 17th minute for the Sagitun GIRLZ in the 17’, but San Pedro leveled things off with the tying goal in the 53’ by Tamara Baptist.

Karisha Coe put Sagitun ahead again in the 60’ but Baptist again leveled in the 61’.

Coe nailed her second in the 73’ to put the Sagitun girls ahead 3-2 and Sabrina Eiley secured the 4-2 win in the 84’.

However, when they met again at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence on Saturday, June 18, the San Pedro Pirates were much stronger and drew 1-1.

Sabrina Eiley opened the score for the Sagitun GIRLZ in the 10’ but Tamara Baptist tied the match in the 40’.
