Belize City man granted bail for charge of theft but sent back to prison for burglarizing government office

By BBN Staff: A Belize City man who was granted bail in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on a charge of theft this week, was still sent back to the Belize Central Prison, because he is on remand for burglarizing a government office.

Thirty-five-year-old Shawn Lanza, pleaded not guilty to the charge of theft when he appeared unrepresented in court on Tuesday.

Lanza was accused of stealing two windows, which had a combined value of $550, on April 6.

There was no objection to bail and it was granted to him in the sum of $1,500 plus one surety of the same. But Lanza could not enjoy his freedom because he was charged back in May for breaking into an unspecified office belonging to the Government of Belize and stole paint, electrical wire and other items which had a total value of $3,777.00.

He is due back in court on August 29, 2022.
