By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize’s Opposition has expressed condolences to the family of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe who was assassinated in Japan.

“The Opposition offers its deepest sympathies to the family of frm Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe who was assassinated today while giving a campaign speech,” said a social media post by Leader of the Opposition Shyne Barrow.

“We condemn this barbaric act which has no place in society. Violence as a means to disrupt the political process must be rejected everywhere,” the post said.

Barrow said that an assassin’s bullet must not rattle our commitment to democracy and freedom which are bonded by free and fair elections.

“We join the people of Japan and the rest of the world in mourning a global political giant who contributed much to world peace.”
