Sandhill man charged with aggravated assault and threatening words says he was framed

By BBN Staff: A Sandhill resident facing criminal charges connected to a domestic dispute says that he is being framed for a crime he did not commit.

Forty-year-old Morin Leslie appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly instrument (a machete) and threatening words. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.

In court, he claimed that the complainant, who is the mother of his two children, fabricated the story to get him into trouble.

The prosecution did not object to bail, so the court granted it to him in the sum of $1,500 plus one surety of the same, which he was able to meet. Leslie is due back in court on August 15.

The victim claims that during an altercation on Monday, July 4, Leslie pulled a machete and told her to leave Sandhill or he would kill her.
