By Rubén Morales Iglesias: “It’s our last boat ride, our last bus ride and it’s the BIG DANCE,” said the San Pedro Pirates before leaving Ambergris Caye enroute to Belmopan for the National Amateur Women’s League A Final tonight Saturday.
The ride to the final has not been easy for either of the two finalists but they have already achieved the unimaginable by cutting down to size the perennial champs Jewel Fury and subchamps Rumberas.
Now they face each other. Even-steven during the regular season except for the first loss the San Pedro Pirates suffered against the Sagitun GIRLZ at home, when they visited Independence the match ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
Now they are in the ‘Last Dance’, and they are ready to lead.
“Preparing for this big day was not a week of training, it was a season of yelling at each other, it was laughing on our crazy adventure, it was crying after each win or even our losses,” said the San Pedro Pirates in a social media post.
“These girls have showed us that they are up for everything and anything from adapting to long rides … to quenching together while riding a boat through a thunder and lightning storm and heavy rain and even dancing and twerking while [their] bus was going through the Hummingbird Highway and finally adapting their eating habits days prior to game day. GIRLS, YOU HAVE DONE IT ALL …”
“SAN PEDRO is not to be taken lightly on anything because we are too passionate about whatever we do. Let’s go Pirates!” closed the post, in anticipation of lifting the coveted NAWL A Cup.
Tonight’s the night. Will the San Pedro Pirates prevail?
Game time is 6:00 pm at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan.
