By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Captain Sofia Solano is leading the Belize’s U-21 Women’s National Team in the Central American Volleyball Championship to be played in Belize City next week.
The Belize Volleyball Association (BVA) is hosting the regional tournament from July 12-16 at the Belize City Civic Center.
On Saturday, the BVA presented the U-21 Women’s National Team which will compete against champions Honduras, subchampions Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua.
The U-21 Belize Women’s National Volleyball Team is comprised according to the accompanying photograph by (left to right) Kaleigh Cardinez, Sofia Solano (Captain), Marci Mejia, Ziane Henderson, Jevia Leslie, Nissan Martinez, Blessed Omamurhe, Fatima Ramirez, Zalika Henderson, Khaya Gordon, Kaeley Bennett, Iman Safa, Gareth Bruce, and Avianka Avila.
The BVA said Team Belize is headed by Cuban coach Jose Fontes and Belizean coaches Lupita Quan, Nelissa Ramirez, and Lawrence Bennett.
The teams are arriving in Belize on Sunday, July 10 for the competition which starts on Tuesday, July 12.
Two games will play every day with Belize playing at 7:30 pm. All teams will have one rest day. Belize rests on Wednesday.
