By Aaron Humes: Even with the recent flare-up of violence across the Belize District, the organizers of the Sprite “Live Life” Youth Basketball Tournament 2022 has completed 60 percent of games with all 15 registered teams, 2 ½ months in.
Games on Saturday were moved due to weather issues from the Ladyville Basketball Court to the Mexico Sports Center at Marion Jones Stadium. Participants took part in a 15-minute life skill session on sportsmanship before and after their games as part of the continued lesson – being peaceful, reasoning with each other, communicating with each other positively, practicing heart & soul competitiveness, sportsmanship, leadership & controlled discipline.
Hattieville Underdogs stopped Mayflower Bombers 28-19; Southside Warriors took down Mahogany Heights Camp 50-26; Hattieville took their second game of the day 37-35 over Dan One and Ebony Lake defeated Mahogany Heights 35-28.
Hard Rock defeated Dan One 47-36; Complex Titans stood tall over Freetown Hitters 49-36; Southside knocked Team Police 32-24; Kraal Road walloped Jaguars 64-25, and in the finale Police recovered to beat Ladyville Big Dreams 52-36.
Ladyville will host the next set of games on July 16.
