Posted: Monday, July 11, 2022. 9:57 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Authorities in Saint Lucia have confirmed that a crew member on a flight has tested positive for monkeypox, Loop reports.

Officials say that although the person did not disembark, the health authorities are increasing surveillance.

“As obtained with infectious diseases, the required contact tracing process is currently being undertaken by the contact tracing team within the Ministry of Health. All identified contacts of the case shall be contacted by the Ministry of Health and placed in quarantine and monitored over a 21-day period,” the Ministry of Health said.

The Ministry further noted that protocols are in place to allow for the management of monkeypox.

Anyone who exhibits symptoms will be tested and those exposed will be quarantined and monitored, the Ministry added.

The World Health Organization continues to monitor the increase in reported cases globally.
