‘Coast Guard officer Shakeem Richards was getaway driver in Puma gas station robbery,’ police say

By Benjamin Flowers: Police have arrested and charged a Belize Coast Guard officer Shakeem Richards in connection with a robbery, but say he wasn’t the one who actually committed it.

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, head of communications for the Office of the Commissioner of Police explained today that Richards, who is the only one to be arrested in connection with this robbery thus far, should be arraigned in court later today.

“Shakeem Richards, 23-year-old Coast Gaurd[officer], was arrested and charged by police for being a getaway driver in a robbery that took place at the Puma Gas Station at the corner of Fabers Road and the George Price Highway,” Yearwood said.

The pump attendant said that he was ambushed by three armed men who took a waist bag containing an undisclosed amount of cash, then jumped into a waiting SUV and sped off. Police later found the vehicle, and recovered the money.
