Corozal House of Culture is open once again

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: After more than a year of being closed, the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH) through the Museum of Belize and Houses of Culture, officially reopened the doors of the Corozal House of Culture (CHOC), on Saturday, July 9.

In his remarks at the reopening, Minister of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology Francis Fonseca reiterated NICH’s commitment to developing, conserving, and promoting culture in all its diversity. Minister Fonseca also thanked the Corozal cultural community for their endeavors in successfully reopening the House of Culture.

Minister Fonseca congratulated the new coordinator of the Corozal House of Culture Zeidi Vellos wishing her well in the work that lies ahead.

Several cultural presentations were made during the reopening.

The reopening ceremony was attended by Henry Charles Usher, Minister of the Public Service, Constitutional and Political Reform, and Religious Affairs; Merilyn Young, Interim President of the NICH; Ilona Smilings, Curator of the Museum of Belize and Houses of Culture, and Dr. Melissa Badillo, Director of the Institute of Archaeology.
