‘Dwayne White shooting possibly over drug turf war,’ say police

By BBN Staff: Dwayne White, 44, was shot dead in Belize City on Friday night, and police say there is a possibility that the incident may be the result of a turf war between inner-city factions for the sale of drugs.

Head of Communications for the Office of the Commissioner of Police ASP Fitzroy Yearwood stressed today that police have not definitively established a motive, but that information gathered by investigators thus far is pointing in the direction of a turf war.

He said that investigators continue to seek more information, but that it is “challenging” to get information from the people in the area.

“That area is known for the sale of several illegal narcotics, and it would want to appear that this is as a result of the sale of those illegal narcotics,” Yearwood said.

White was shot several times to the body around 11:30 p.m. and was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he died moments later.
