Mexican cartel ordered to pay $4.6 billion for the murder of 9 American Mormons

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: A court in North Dakota has ordered the infamous, Juarez Cartel in Mexico to pay $4.6 billion for the murders of 9 American Mormons in 2019, Latin Post reports.

The victims’ families filed a lawsuit against the Juarez Cartel and accused the drug cartel of ambushing 3 SUVs on November 6, 2019, which resulted in the deaths of their loved ones.

According to the report, 100 cartel gunmen split into 2 groups and fired hundreds of rounds into the 3 vehicles.

The victims were Maria Rhonita LeBaron and 4 of her children, which included 8-month-old twins; Dawna Langford and her 2 children, ages 11 and 2, and Christina Langford.

In 2020, the victims’ families filed lawsuits against the cartel and accused them of carrying out the attack as retribution for public criticism and protests against the drug cartel.

However, court documents noted that the goal of the cartel was to take back territory from a rival Mexican cartel.
