By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: A patient who had tested positive for Monkeypox and was admitted to a hospital in Jamaica, fled the hospital to enjoy his vacation, Newsweek reports.

The man visited doctors on July 5th – 5 days after he arrived in Jamaica from the United Kingdom. He was then admitted but escaped the hospital on July 9.

Authorities say he climbed out of a bathroom window then into a nearby car that was waiting for him.

Health officials in the country are on high alert and remind the public that monkeypox can be transmitted from person to person.

Later on July 9th, Jamaica’s Health Ministry confirmed that they found the patient and he was taken back to isolation at the hospital.

Sources say that the patient had escaped because he wanted to enjoy his vacation in Jamaica.

There are now 8,238 confirmed cases of monkeypox globally according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
