By BBN Staff: Ethan Matura, charged for the fatal traffic accident that took the life of Rodel Williams back in June, is scheduled to return to court on September 8.
Matura was charged in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court last week with manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, and driving a motor vehicle without due care and attention along with one count of failure to conform to a traffic sign.
No plea was taken at the Magistrate level as the case will be tried in the Supreme Court, and bail was granted in the sum of $8,000 plus two sureties of $4,000 each, which Matura was able to meet.
On June 22, Matura ran a stop sign at the corner of Cleghorn Street and Slaughterhouse Road, hitting an SUV. The impact caused that SUV to spin, knocking three passersby off of their bicycles. Williams, who was among them, died of his injuries sometime after.
