By BBN Staff: A 40-year-old Hattieville woman is out on bail after reportedly trying to run her neighbour over with her vehicle, then chasing the neighbour with a machete to chop her.
Florith Requena was charged in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court with two counts of aggravated assault, one with respect to the vehicle and the other with respect to the machete. She pleaded guilty to both charges.
Requena was granted bail in the sum of $2,000 plus one surety of the same amount which she met. She is due back in court on August 29, 2022.
The complainant alleged that on the night of June 29, she was on the street in front of her house when a vehicle sped towards her and she had to go into her yard to avoid being hit. She came back out shortly after and the vehicle returned, with Requena emerging from it with a machete.
Requena reportedly came to confront the complainant regarding an issue involving her child which occurred at a shop in the village earlier that day. The complainant said she had to run from Requena to avoid being chopped, and a passer by intervened to assist her from being harmed.
