By BBN Staff: A woman brought before the court for possession of crack cocaine and a crack pipe made a heartfelt plea to the justice system to help her get over her addiction.
Reva Jones, a 25-year-old mother of three, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, charged with possession of a controlled drug (0.4 grams of crack) and possession of utensils for the purpose of smoking drugs.
In court, she explained that her eldest son was due to turn 11 years old in a matter of days and that she needs help because she is a source of embarrassment to him. She pleaded with the Magistrate to send her to the Belize Central Prison, so she could get help.
The Magistrate sentenced Jones to four months in prison, two months for each offense, and told her that she needs to enroll in the drug rehabilitation program immediately. She is to return to court at the end of the four months to be evaluated.
While she will miss her son’s birthday, Jones is looking forward to spending his next birthday, drug-free, with her son.
