United States Embassy in Belize congratulates Simone Biles for receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The United States Embassy in Belize has extended congratulations to renowned Belizean- American athlete Simone Biles on receiving the 2022 U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Biles was bestowed the Medal of Freedom on July 7th by President Joe Biden.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian honor conferred to individuals who have acted with bravery to drive change in their communities – and across the world – while blazing trails for generations to come.

In Belize and around the world, Biles is recognized as the most decorated American gymnast in history, with a combined total of 32 Olympic and World Championship medals, and a prominent advocate for athletes’ mental health and safety, children in the foster care system, and victims of sexual assault.

President Biden noted that Biles is the youngest person in history to ever receive the Presidential Medal of freedom.
