By BBN Staff: Windell Thurton Jr. who was on remand at the Belize Central Prison for 6 1/2 years on charges was released on time served this week after pleading guilty to lesser charges.

Thurton was originally charged for murder with respect to the stabbing death of Ian Blair. He was also charged for attempted murder with respect to the stabbing of Dr. Marcus Rugama back in January 2016.

In court yesterday, Thurton pleaded guilty to abetment to murder and abetment to attempted murder and was sentenced to 6 1’2 years, the exact time he had spent on remand. With that, he walked out of the courtroom a free man having served his sentence.

Thurton admitted that he stayed at the gate while his two associates went into the apartment to commit a robbery which later turned into murder.

Th other person who was charged for murder was deemed mentally unfit to stand trial at a competency hearing back in 2016.
