Alexander Holder’s attorney appeals conviction; granted bail in burglary case against boss

By BBN Staff: Alexander Holder, who was charged and sentenced to four years in prison for an alleged burglary against his employer at Coye’s Funeral Home, was granted bail and released from prison on Thursday after his attorney made a submission to appeal his conviction.

Holder’s attorney Samira Musa-Pott made an application for a stay of execution of the court’s decision to sentence him to four years in prison on July 5. Pott raised several points in Holder’s defense including an affidavit stating that he has a learning disability.

The stay of execution was granted after careful consideration and granted bail in the sum of $5,000 plus two sureties. Holder was then able to leave the court as a free man, for now at least, after spending nine days in jail following his conviction.

Holder’s boss also made a submission in the form of an affidavit corroborating Holder’s claims of having a learning disability. He even stated he believed Holder did not act alone in the commission of the burglary and believed he was acting under someone else’s influence.

An appeal of this nature can take anywhere from 6 months to years of waiting.
