Homeless man fined $105 for crack possession

By BBN Staff: Alrick Gotoy, 37, a homeless Belize City man was fined $105 in court on Thursday after pleading guilty to possession of crack cocaine.

Gotoy appeared unrepresented in court where he was charged with a single count of possession of a controlled drug to wit. The quantity of crack cocaine was undetermined.

Gotoy, however, admitted in court that police found him with the drug in his hand on Thursday. He admitted to being a drug user and told the court that using the drug helps him with the pain he suffers from when he was once shot and had his jaw broken.

For his guilty plea, he was given a non-custodial sentence and fined $100 plus a $5 cost of court.
