Retired landscaper out on $800 bail for drugs he claims wasn’t his

By BBN Staff: Retired landscaper Deon Brackett is out on $800 bail following a drug possession charge to which he pleaded not guilty.

Brackett appeared in Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Thursday where he was read a single charge of possession of a controlled drug for an undetermined quantity of crack cocaine.

In court, Brackett explained that the drugs were not found on his person but on the ground in an area where several people including himself were present at the time. He claims he had only just ridden up to the area when the drugs were found by police.

There was no objection to bail by the prosecution and Brackett was offered bail in the sum of $800 plus one surety of the same, which he was able to meet. He is due back in court in September.
