By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Mexican President, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has confirmed that during discussions held this week in Washington, the United States agreed to increase work visas for Mexicans and other Central Americans, Reuters report.
“The number of (temporary) work visas to enter the United States will be considerably expanded,” President Lopez Obrador stated.
President Lopez Obrador and U.S. President Joe Biden met in the Oval Office to discuss migration and investments among other issues.
During those discussions, the Mexican president made a call for the U.S. to allow for more legal work visas.
However, Biden reiterated the existing programs that are open for Mexicans and Central Americans.
A joint statement issued after the meeting noted that both governments would form a working group on labor migration pathways.
