By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Friday, Mexican authorities captured infamous drug lord, Rafael Caro Quintero, Los Angeles Times reports.
Quintero is the former leader of the Guadalajara Cartel and was wanted by the FBI for the murder of a U.S. DEA agent in 1985.
Quintero was found after a search dog found him hiding in bushes in Sinaloa during a joint operation.
There were 2 pending arrest orders for him as well as an extradition request from the U.S. government.
In 2013, Caro Quintero was freed after spending 28 years in prison when a Mexican court overturned his 40 year sentence for the 1985 kidnapping and killing of U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena.
Quintero was on the FBI’s most wanted list with a $20 million reward for his capture.
According to reports, in the late 1970’s, Quintero was one of the primary suppliers of heroin, cocaine and marijuana to the U.S.
Mexican President, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has reiterated that he is not interested in detaining drug lords and prefers to avoid violence.
