Belize City shop owner and employees arrested on drugs and ammunition charges – crystal meth among the drugs seized

By BBN Staff: Five people, an Asian shop owner, his wife, and their employees were arrested and charged by police for drugs and ammunition offenses. 

Police conducted a raid at the shop on Douglas Jones Street on Friday, July 15, where they found  2 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 4 grams of cocaine, and a total of 170 grams of marijuana in three different portions, and 18 live rounds of .9mm ammunition.

Shop assistant, 19-year-old Seth Carillo, owned up to 22 grams of marijuana and was fined $605 for it. If he does not pay he faces six months in prison for default. 

The shop owner, 32-year-old Zhi Jun Huang, and 33-year-old Jin Lian Zhang, were remanded to the Belize Central Prison on a charge of kept unlicensed ammunition, which is not an offense bailable at the Magistrate level. They were also charged jointly for possession of controlled drugs with the intent to supply. 

Cashier,19-year-old, Ana Muchuca,  the other employee, 32-year-old Cameron Slusher, and Carillo were all jointly charged for drug trafficking and pleaded not guilty. They were all offered bail in the sum of $3,000 plus one surety of the same amount for which Muchaca, Slusher, and Carillo were able to post bail.

The group, who were all represented by attorney Richard “Dickie” Bradley, are due back in court on September 19.
