Chamber of Commerce backs increase in mandatory age from 14 to 16 for students in school

By Aaron Humes: The recent decision to increase mandatory age for school enrollment from 14 to 16 continues to earn rave reviews.

In commending the Government today, the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry cited an assessment from TZA World of Labour that keeping more kids in school by a certain age as indicative of a positive effect on the level of education amongst the group most likely to leave the education system early, as well as benefiting in other areas such as health and crime.

In its release, the Chamber states, “The BCCI firmly believes that education is a key factor in the development of a country’s economy and encourages the continued improvement of the country’s education system…The BCCI reiterates its commitment to support the Government of Belize in national development through meaningful consultation with the private sector.”
