By Aaron Humes: According to Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, Edwin Hill, the Prime Minister’s official driver, is cooperating with an investigation into a fatal road traffic accident on Sunday night in the vicinity of Biscayne, Belize District.
The Commissioner told reporters that per police investigations, Hill was driving his private motor vehicle between Belize City and Orange Walk Town, when he allegedly knocked down a motorcyclist between Miles 24 and 25 on the Philip Goldson Highway just after seven.
The Commissioner said the cyclist, not yet identified, “was riding in front of him and suddenly swerved in the path of the incoming vehicle. Due to the fact that other vehicles were coming in the opposite direction, he (Hill) attempted to swerve away but could not successfully do so because of the incoming traffic.”
The cyclist was quickly taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he died while receiving treatment.
Hill gave his report to Ladyville Police, and the Commissioner said investigators are presently recording statements from witnesses and preparing the file to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for a determination on the matter.
