Ghana reports two cases of deadly Ebola-like Marburg virus

Posted: Monday, July 18, 2022. 10:26 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Ghana has confirmed 2 cases of the deadly Marburg virus, Yahoo reports.

Marburg is a highly infectious disease in the same family as the virus that causes Ebola.

According to reports, both patients died in a hospital in the South of Ghana.

A laboratory in Senegal confirmed that the samples tested positive for the virus.

Ninety-eight people are now in quarantine as suspected contact cases.

Officials from the World Health Organization (WHO) say that the country’s swift response is good since Marburg virus can easily get out of hand.

The virus is transmitted to people from fruit bats and spreads between humans through the transmission of bodily fluids.

Symptoms include headache, fever, muscle pains, vomiting blood, and bleeding.

Officials are closely monitoring the situation since, in 2005, the virus killed more than 200 people in Angola.
