By Benjamin Flowers: On Sunday a group of young men walking on Vernon Street had several gunshots fired at them, and police say that incident was connected to an attempted shooting in the surrounding area the night before.

Head of Communications for the Office of the Commissioner of Police, ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, explained that on Saturday night, two armed men coming out of a gray Ford Escape attempted to fire on Kevin Gordon but one of their guns snapped.

A police officer working special duty at a shop in the immediate vicinity approached and detained the driver of the vehicle, while the other two men ran in separate directions. Yearwood said police were still following up on the Saturday night incident when the group was fired upon on Sunday morning. The shooters in the Sunday morning incident also managed to escape police but officers searched the area and found a .9mm pistol with live rounds in the magazine.

“This was labeled as found property but we know who we are looking for in this incident and since yesterday we’ve done several operations where we have seen several persons from the Mayflower area being detained,” Yearwood said.

He added that police are having difficulties obtaining information, as Gordon is not cooperating with investigators.
