By Benjamin Flowers: The Belize Tourism Board announced this week that, as of August 1, Belize will be using the regional Pre-Notification Arrival System, called SAILCLEAR, which was developed by Caribbean Customs Law Enforcement Council (CCLEC).
The BTB said on Monday that the main function of the app is to assist the boarding parties process the arrival and departure of vessels in our territorial waters, and will become a mandatory step in the official method of clearance. The Customs and Excise Department will be administering the SAILCLEAR application at no cost to the general public.
“This system does NOT replace an official declaration and is simply a notification specifying intent. When the user presents him/herself to the authorities, it is then and only then, it becomes a formal declaration to the state,” the BTB said.
The BTB added that it welcomes the use of SAILCLEAR as Nautical Tourism is an emerging niche market in Belize and the system includes a list of all fees and processes associated with arriving and departing Belize.
SAILCLEAR can be accessed from any electronic device with internet access, and the (CCLEC) has donated four kiosks which have been installed at strategic locations in Belize — at the Radisson Fort George Marina in Belize City; Old Belize (Kukumba Beach) Marina, Belize City; Amigos de Mar in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye; and Roberts Grove Marina in Placencia.
