By BBN Staff: A Belize City man caught committing a number of traffic offenses, is also being prosecuted for trying to evade being arrested.
Twenty-five-year-old Stradni Cassasola, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, answering to one count each of driving an unlicensed motor vehicle, driving a motor vehicle not covered by third-party insurance, and driving without a valid driver’s license. He was additionally charged with resisting arrest.
Cassasola pleaded guilty to the traffic offenses and was fined a combined $515 for all three offenses, which he must pay between August and October or he could be sentenced to up to five months in prison for default.
Cassasola pleaded not guilty to the charge of resisting arrest and was granted bail in the sum of $1,000 plus one surety of the same, which he was able to meet. He is due back in court on September 19.
On Sunday, July 17, officers conducting special patrols on Faber’s Road noticed that Cassassola suspiciously rode off on his motorcycle in the opposite direction when he saw them coming. The officers pursued him and when they intercepted him, asked for his license and registration which he was not able to produce.
During the exchange, Cassasola reportedly tried to walk away from the police while being questioned.
