By BBN Staff: A Belize City man was remanded to the Belize Central Prison this week after being accused of burglarizing the home of his girlfriend’s mother.
Twenty-five-year-old James Earl Jones appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, answering to a single charge of burglary.
He is accused of stealing curtains, towels, and other household items to a total value of $748.
In court, Jones pleaded not guilty and said that he resides at the house where the alleged burglary took place. He also said that he has not seen his girlfriend in over a month.
Though there was no objection to bail, the Chief Magistrate denied him bail in the first instance and remanded him until September 23 because he did not pay a fine from an old conviction.
Jones then requested that the court send up his warrant so he could serve prison time instead of paying the fine.
